Chlorogenic acid is one of the main antimicrobial and antiviral components of Flos Lonicerae. Lv Yuan acid has a wide range of antibacterial effects, but can be inactivated by protein in vivo. Similar to caffeic acid, oral or intraperitoneal injection increased central excitability in rats. It can increase the peristalsis of small intestine in rats and mice and the tension of uterus in rats. It is beneficial to gallbladder and can increase bile secretion in rats.
